Kansas City area hospitals experience 32% reduction in Central Line-Associated Blood Stream Infections!

Back in 2009 and 2010, the Center started the CUSP/STOP BSI Kansas City Area Collaborative. With partial funding from Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas City, fifteen hospitals in the Greater Metropolitan Kansas City and Northwest Missouri regions participated using evidence-based clinical interventions to improve front-line teamwork and communication aimed at reducing Central Line Associated Blood Stream Infections (CLABSIs). The results?

The project consistently maintained a lower rate of CLABSIs compared to national rates, we reduced CLABSI rates by 32%, saved a life, prevented 17 CLABSIs and prevented the spending of $1.4 million in health care costs!
