Jefferson City, Missouri – April 2, 2012 — April is Patient Safety Awareness Month (PSAM) in Missouri and the Missouri Center for Patient Safety (MOCPS), is recognizing the importance of safe health care 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year, by making available resources on safe care for consumers, and a Safety Promotion Toolkit for healthcare providers and professionals to promote their continuous focus on safe care. http://www.centerforpatientsafety.org/april-2012-missouri-patient-safety-awareness-month
As a regional patient safety center, the MOCPS is committed to continuing its efforts, in collaboration with health care providers, regulators and consumers, to improve health care safety and eliminate unintended patient harm.
Throughout the year, MOCPS leads programs to assist health care providers in improving the safety of health care delivery. Programs include the Center’s efforts as a federally designated Patient Safety Organization (PSO) to collect and analyze medical error data and identify prevention strategies and facilitation of statewide initiatives such as its successful “Just Cultureâ€ work, Comprehensive Unit-based Safety Program (CUSP), and clinical projects that bring providers together to improve teamwork, communication and clinical care in high risk, high harm areas, such as reducing health care acquired infections. http://www.centerforpatientsafety.org/april-2012-missouri-patient-safety-awareness-month
In recognition of PSAM, the MOCPS has compiled Key Tips and Resources to improve safe care for both providers and consumers, and developed a downloadable, customizable Safety Promotion Toolkit.
Consumer and provider resources and tips from national organizations and the MOCPS include videos, tools for consumers to learn more about the safety of healthcare, keep track of their own health care needs and improve communication with their health care providers.
Additionally, the Safety Promotion Toolkit is designed to help health care providers share the importance of safe care every day. The toolkit contains the following materials encouraging the public to “Ask Us How We Improve Patient Safety Everyday – 24/7/365â€ that can be customized for each organization.

â€¢ Tent cards for use in public areas and patient rooms
â€¢ Posters to display in public and staff areas
